Organic cotton sweaters @ Athleta

Organic Cotton Rib Cowl Neck, $64,
athleta.gap.com
Athleta, a subcompany of Gap, has an adorably form-fitting organic cotton sweater out for this season.

It has the ribbed texture, turtleneck component, and longer sleeves.

And it shows an eco-fashion commitment in the big-time corporate world.

Organic zip-up sweater jackets

It's cold outside, and I'm in California. So as the weather gets worse, a zip-up sweater jacket sounds really warm.

Of course, with eco-fashion on the rise, zip-up sweater jackets this season can be made from organic cotton, wool, and hemp. Also, these featured models have a turtleneck section that equals more warmth.

Organic nail polish remover

Follow my blog with bloglovin

Yesterday night before painting my fingernails a shiny scarlet red, I needed to remove the last of my clear nail polish. Once I popped the top off my handy dandy nail polish remover, I didn't smell anything.

Remover, $12, uncommongoods.com

Unfortunately, I became immune to the chemical smell like so many other people. So I had to see if there were organic nail polish removers out there that can save me from the harsh chemicals overtaking my sense of smell.

Suncoat (30ml), $5.99,

Organic nail polish removers may be made from oils from flowers and fruits and have natural fragrance. They shouldn't contain acetone or formaldehyde that can cause the strong smell and irritate the cuticle.

Eco-trend: hip bags

Throw those retro fanny packs away! They've been out of style for awhile, but there are times when you rather just carry your lip gloss and cell phone in your pockets instead of wearing a heavy handbag.

Ruby Zaar, an eco-friendly designer, has created a line of hip bags perfect for the girl-on-the-go who doesn't need the whole purse package.

The eco-leather bags undergo the natural tanning process, and the hides come from an organic farm. If eco-leather doesn't work, there's still a vegan bag. The company guarantees fair trade and fair wages and proceeds for the artisans, farmers, and tanners in Thailand.

Winter eco-scarves

Azuri Silk Cotton Scarf, $29, nimli.com
(comes in 50 colors!)

It's that time of year when the cold weather swoops in, and we need the warm protection. That's where the scarf comes in.

Scarves protect the nose and mouth from the coughing and sniffling, and more companies are making organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo scarves thick enough for the season.

Before, organic scarves were usually made thin for an occasional breeze, but with eco-fashion interest, there's more naturally made, fairly traded winter scarves.

Any color can complement a nice pea coat and keep us toasty amidst the harsh weather.

Eco-fashion sales #1

With snow threatening to make an appearance, I had to march myself to the mall this weekend to get my boots asap (couldn’t wait for Black Friday). Since I try to support eco-fashion as much as possible, I found faux leather boots with a sale of buy-one-get-the-other-$10 bucks at Wet Seal. I usually buy faux leather and cloth boots for the winter since they have a lower environmental impact sometimes compared to real leather shoe wear.

Then, I headed to Old Navy where I bought some long-sleeved shirts and another pair of imitation Ugg faux leather boots with faux fur lining perfect for wearing in the rain. On another note, I noticed the shirts and boots all had price tags printed on recycled paper. At least, there’s an attempt to make fashion a little greener.

My beauty product essentials

de~luxe Rosemary Mint,
$9.60, drugstore.com
Regular beauty products found in the average drugstore can be natural. The key is to make sure the contents sound familiar and originate from flowers, fruits, etc.

These are some of my fave products that use on a daily basis and can be inexpensive and do the job better than most.

Some of these products can be bought cheap at flea markets or discount stores. Let's just say I never pay $30 for facial creme.

Eco-must-have: career essentials

Whether starting a new job or sprucing up the professional image, there are career girl items everyone owns to convey that flawless appearance. From head-to-toe, an eco-fashionable commitment can still be on display at the workplace.

Grey Long Blazer, $99.19, anniegreenabelle.com

Blazers are a must since they're compatible with any smooth pair of slacks or fancy jeans. They make any ensemble look so much more businessy. With fall in the picture, try a medium to dark one-color blazer that can be made from eco-fabrics varying from organic cotton to bamboo.

Faded Glory Women's Organic Cotton Long-Sleeve Button-Down Shirt, $12, walmart.com
The white button-up blouse may be the key to success. With its combined simplicity and sophistication, the blouse can add an impressive flair.

Organic Cotton Pencil Skirt, $59, athleta.com
Out of all the skirts ever made, the pencil skirt is hands-down the best choice for the workplace. Like with the blazers, cold weather means thicker eco-fabrics and darker colors. A pair of eco-friendly boots with a flatter heel or wedge can complement the skirt and bring warmth to the legs.

Vegan Professional Briefcase, $62.99, veganchic.com

What better than a briefcase to hold all those files from the office. Usually, the top briefcases are made from conventional leather, but there are plenty of recycled or synthetic leather briefcases that still give off that professional shine. Even a vintage one can still get the job done.
Madden Girl Women's Raleigh Vegan Platform Pump, $49.99, famousfootwear.com

On the days when the boots need a rest, the pump steps in as the replacement. Shoes are generally the one item that can be found eco-friendly with either using recycled or synthetic materials or being made in a sweatshop-free environment or made locally. Less inches in the heel department is the more comfortable trend out right now.
